Konditori Bakery | Antwerp

I'm always on the hunt for the perfect loaf of sourdough bread. I had passed by Konditori numerous times, but always either too late (nothing left) or on the days they're closed (Tuesdays and Wednesdays). But last Friday I finally made it. At first impression, I was slightly disappointed because the name Konditori led me to believe they would have Swedish pastries like cardamom buns. But my disappointment quickly disappeared once I saw what else they had to offer!

What I like most about Konditori is that it doesn't look like a "regular" Belgian bakery. The design is sleek and the large windows allow any passersby to peek inside and see all the appetising loaves of bread lined up, ready to be taken home.

Although the bakery is simple, there's a lot of choice (this pic was taken in the afternoon, so imagine the display in the morning..) Little tartlets, pastries, croissants and dozens of types of bread. Everything freshly baked by the baker Steve, who worked all over the world before opening Konditori.

Since I'm not really into the sweet stuff, I bought a Pain Des Gaults, which is kind of a sourdough bread (if I understood correctly). I brought it home where it was immediately approved by the rest of the family. The exterior is super crunchy while the interior is just the right amount of sticky

I must return to Konditori asap to try their cacao bread (sounds interesting right?) And I secretly hope the owners read this post and decide to make cinnamon/cardamom buns for the festive season. With a name like that, it's kind of a must!
