Like I mentioned in my previous post, I went to Munich two weeks ago for a short visit. Even though I didn't really plan it, I discovered quite a few new hotspots. I've only been gone for about a year and Munich seems to have gotten even better. From healthy take-away spots to popular bars, in this post, I'll tell you about some of Munich's newest spots as well as some old favourites of mine. A little recap of my weekend spent in Germany's most beautiful city!
I arrived on Friday afternoon to a cold but beautifully crisp and sunny Munich. Maxvorstadt is my favourite area and also the area where I lived last year, so I spent most of the weekend there. Munich is pretty underrated as a "city trip'" destination, but there's actually so much you can do here. What I love most about arriving in Munich is being able to breathe in the fresh mountain air after the flight. SO nice!
This isn't a new shop, but it is definitely one of my favourites in Munich. Amber Lounge is located in Maxvorstadt and they sell a wonderful range of different brands, like Love Stories, Princesse Tamtam, Essentiel and traditional Bavarian dirndls. It's like a candy shop for girls!
Kauf Dich Glücklich
Kauf Dich Glücklich is one of my other favourite stores. It's also a concept store and they sell all kinds of Scandinavian brands as well as more sporty brands. Their selection is on point! If you need to find a gift they've got you covered as well, with a range of books, homeware, jewellery and cute cards. There are shops all over Germany, and you'll find two of them in Munich.
>> Reichenbach 14 & Schellingstraße 23
This is a new takeaway concept in Munich and I absolutely love it. It's like a healthy Pret-A-Manger! They have delicious smoothies (with avocado!), amazing salads, juices, coffee, banana bread... Everything I love basically! Plus their marketing is just so nice, with cute cards, nice packaging, the works! There are two branches in Munich so far but I'm pretty sure they'll expand rapidly. It's a concept which didn't really exist yet and I wish we had this in Antwerp. Hopefully in a few years?
>> Maffeistraße 6 & Schellingstrasse 15
>> Barerstraße 74
This is a new-ish concept which is kind of taking over the world. It's like a Whole Foods but with only the best of the best Italian products. Heaven! There are some Eataly's in the States but also in Europe you can find a few, like in Munich. You can find everything from pasta to olive oil to truffles and pesto... and for the Nutella lovers, there's even a Nutella bar. You'll want to buy and try literally everything!
>> Viktualienmarkt 15
This is nothing new, but it's a good tip for everyone who loves breakfast. At the MyMuesli shop you can buy every single flavour and combination of muesli, like for example matcha or cardamom flavour. My favourite one is the paleo muesli which has raspberries and coconut in it.
>> Viktualienmarkt 7
Manufactum - bakery
If you like good bread then you should definitely check out the bakery at Manufactum. The bread is pretty expensive but there's a reason why the bread is always sold out here. It's probably some of the best bread you can get your hands on! The walnut bread is my favourite and I have yet to find a better-tasting walnut bread than the one from Manufactum.
>> Dienerstraße 12
OHNE der verpackungsfreie Supermarkt
This is one of those packaging-free shops where you can bring your own jars, bags and containers and fill them up with things like grains, oils, vegetables, muesli, spices, herbs, coffee beans etc. The shop is tastefully designed and they sell some pretty special products. You can even make your own nut butter or sit down for a coffee and banana bread.
>> Schellingstrasse 42
This is the perfect place for gift shopping. Pretty hand-drawn cards, funny teacups, posters with quotes, kitchenware and washi tape are just some of the things you can find at Welt White. And as the name suggest, nearly everything is white, which is perfect when you're buying something for a minimalism lover.
>> Theresienstrasse 9
This is my friend's local Italian place, and it had been on my list ever since I arrived in Munich last January. It's a small restaurant, so you either need to make a reservation or be very patient. We did the latter, so we couldn't be happier when our truffle pasta finally arrived. The food is delicious here and the staff is extremely friendly. The desserts are damn good as well, so make sure to try those too!
>> Nordendstraße 58
I've told you about this place many times before because it's my favourite restaurant in Munich. At this Vietnamese/Asian inspired restaurant, you can never go wrong, everything on the menu is absolutely delicious and full of flavour. I usually order the do-it-yourself summer rolls which are both fun to make and super yummy. This time I tried the rolls with marinated tofu, big tip for veggies! Amazing food for reasonable prices.
>> Kaiserstraße 28
This place opened about a year ago and it's still booming. At Herzog, you can either start your day with brunch or end your day with dinner and cocktails. We went here for some nice cocktails. The only downside of its popularity is that the service can't really keep up, so I had to wait for 30 minutes at the bar before I could order a drink. Keep this in mind if you're as impatient as I am ;) But overall it's a really cool place and I imagine it being perfect during summer since they have a large terrace outside.
>> Maxburgstraße 4
Circle by Cihan Anadologlu
We ended our Saturday fun at the Circle Bar, which is located inside Heart House. It's a tiny bar which is kind of hidden, and it reminded me of the small bar at Sketch in London. Expect excellent service and some of the best cocktails you'll ever have. Internationally renowned Cihan definitely knows how to run a great cocktail bar, which is why he has already won several prizes with Circle.
>> Lenbachplatz 2A
