Breakfast at Nopi by Ottolenghi | London

Nopi had been on my London-to-do for absolutely ages. Somehow I never managed to go there during the three years I spent in London, shame on me! Nopi is Yotam Ottolenghi's restaurant which is quite different than his famous delis. Here you can enjoy some chef Ramael Scully's classics (which you'll also find in their new cookcook Nopi), but the menu is also seasonal so you never have to eat the same thing twice. You can pretty much eat here for any meal of the day, but we chose to have breakfast at Nopi!

A big pile of sourdough bread welcomes you at the entrance. Is there any better way than to great your guests in the morning?

We were the first ones there that morning (very eager), which gave me an opportunity to shamelessly take photos without disturbing other guests. The interior is absolutely stunning with lots of white marble and gold details - not the tacky kind. My brother was my breakfast-partner-in-crime this time and he was also really impressed with the interior (as an architect that says something!)

We received the menu which was just one sheet, the perfect amount of options! I hate having to think for ages about what I'll eat because there are too many options. Although I must say choosing still wasn't easy at Nopi.

We both ordered fresh juices to start with, which had the most beautiful shades of orang-y pink, kind of like sunrise in a glass!

Our mains soon arrived (the perks of being the first guests) and we tucked in right away. Just kidding, I took 100 pictures before we tucked in, much to my brother's discontent. There are many advantages of traveling with a foodie, but you always always have to let her take a pic of the food first ;)

What we ordered? Mushroom toast with a poached egg for me and eggs Shakshuka for him.

And although I thought my dish looked pretty good...

... his looked even better! Oh my god what a treat! If you like a hearty and filling breakfast, try Shakshuka. It's a little skillet with braised eggs, tomatoes, onions, garlic and smoked labneh (kind of a thick yoghurt). Served with fresh bread for dipping! When I tried this I wanted to recreate it at home right away, so the recipe is coming soon. If you own a cookbook by Ottolenghi, chances are high that there's some variation of Shakshuka in there.

My brekky was also a real treat, especially for mushroom-lover like me! A big pile of mixed mushrooms on sourdough toast with a perfectly runny poached egg on top. One thing I would have changed is keeping the toast on the side, instead of piling the mushrooms on top. My last few bites of toast were a bit soft and no longer crunchy. Apart from that it was an A-star dish.

Downstairs there are communal tables, which are perfect if you're dining with a bigger group. I also spotted the staff finishing breakfast here before their shift started. I asked someone in the kitchen about it and he said they have breakfast together every morning. Lucky them! There was a really relaxed vibe in the kitchen, which was nice to see.

On the right there's kind of an open pantry, which is fantastic for nosy people like me ;) There were products from all over the world! I love the 'overlap' between the restaurant and the kitchen, it feels much more personal.

One thing you also can't miss at Nopi are the toilets. I won't give away too much, but if you want a sneak peek, take a look here. Very cool!

I can highly recommend the breakfast at Nopi. Not only the food is a feast to the eye, but also the restaurant itself is lovely and so is the staff! It's a great place with good food and a nice vibe. I'd recommend going early or reserving a table because it's always full, all day. I can't wait to go back here next time I'm in London to try to lunch/dinner menu!
