Café Reitschule frühstück | Munich

During one of my last days in Munich, my siblings came to visit me. On Friday morning, they wanted a good and decent German breakfast (which we love) so I took them to Café Reitschule for a big breakfast al fresco. We went around 10 am on a Friday and it was the most peaceful start to a beautiful and hot summer day. I'll tell you a bit more about Reitschule's brekky today!

Reitschule is German for 'riding school', which means that behind this café there are stables, horses and a full-on horse riding school. Not surprising, since the Reitschule is located right in between the English Garden (Munich's biggest park) and the residential Schwabing area. Surrounded by trees and flowers, it looks and feels like a little oasis right in the city.

You'd almost think that you're somewhere at the Amalfi coast rather than in Munich...

We sat down at a big wooden table outside, on the 'street side'. Since there are horses around, sitting on the back terrace means that you'll have the smell of horses around when eating your breakfast, so if you're not a fan of that, I recommend choosing the street side. You don't really feel like you're sitting by the street because of all the plants and cosy sitting areas.

We were some of the only ones having breakfast here on that Friday morning, so apart from some elderly men discussing over coffee, we pretty much had the place to ourselves. A super friendly waitress handed us the breakfast/frühstück menu:

So much to choose from, there's something for everyone's taste! I started with a carrot, orange and ginger juice while my sister and brother had breakfast tea.

My sis and I both chose the healthy breakfast (gesund), which was a big plate filled with avocado, cottage cheese, tomato, cucumber, Greek yoghurt and a fruit salad. Completed with a side of German bread.

My brother went for the sweet breakfast (süss) which had Bircher müsli, fruit salad and a croissant. While he wasn't a big fan of the Bircher müsli (a kind of overnight oats) my sister and I really liked it. It was really creamy and had a lot of cinnamon!

The healthy breakfast option was the perfect balance of hearty and sweet. The cottage cheese in combination with the cucumber and dark bread was super delicious! Definitely something to recreate at home for a Sunday brunch.

After our filling brekky we finished with the foamiest café latte and a cappuccino.

Café Reitschule is definitely one of my favourite places for breakfast. Not necessarily because the food is really special (you could get this type of breakfast anywhere in Munich), but because of the beautiful surroundings. The prices are decent for what you get and the quality is good. After having breakfast you can just walk a few meters and you're already in the city's most beautiful park. I can't think of a better way to start your day in beautiful Munich! - info & details here
