25 food questions

I saw this tag with 25 food questions and I thought it was perfect for me! It's a Dutch tag from this blog but I translated the questions, so any of you can use if for your own blog in case you have one. Here's some things you probably didn't know about me and my best friend food :)

1. What's your favourite breakfast?
My favourite meal of the day! A smoothie bowl made of quark with one banana and frozen raspberries. Topped with fresh berries, cacao nibs and some almond or peanut butter. I also love my banana rice crackers and raspberry oats. You can always make me happy with fruit for breakfast!

2. How do you like your coffee?
A strong latte, semi-skimmed milk, no sugar. And some cool latte art :)

3. What's on your favourite sandwich?
I’m not a big sandwich fan but roast beef, rocket, parmesan and pesto is always good.

4. Soup or salad?
Salad all the way.

5. What's your favourite cookbook?
I love cookbooks but actually rarely cook with one. I love looking through them for inspiration and my favourites are Ottolenghi’s books: Plenty, Jeruzalem and Plenty More.

6. Never sweet or never salty again?
Never sweet again. I don't really have a sweet tooth, though on second thoughts I couldn't live without chocolate.

7. Which cuisine is your favourite?
Japanese, I love pure and earthy flavours.

8. What's your favourite food film?
Chocolat. You can almost taste the chocolate when watching this film. And Johnny Depp as extra eye candy doesn’t hurt.

9. What’s your ultimate guilty pleasure?
Raw cookie dough when making cookies. I know it gives me a stomach ache but I can't help it.

10. Who's your biggest inspiration?
My mom. She’s the reason why my sister and I love cooking so much, and the reason why we’re pretty good at it too. Even with a few ingredients she can make a feast. My mom’s food is the best and she always manages to wow her guests. I have a lot more to learn from her!

11. Cooking at home or eating out?
I really love cooking, but I think I love eating out a tiny bit more. This is a tough question because I love both.

12. High end or low profile?
Low profile, simple and good quality good. I’m generally not a fan of 7-course meals which come in microscopic portions.

13. What's your favourite restaurant?
WHAT kind of question is this? Impossible to choose. Some of my favourites are Kurobuta in London, Da Enzo in Switzerland and Super Rica in California. Sometimes it's the whole experience around it which makes it so memorable.

14. I do my grocery shopping at…
Depends on the country. In England I like Waitrose the most. In the Netherlands I shop at Albert Heijn and Lidl, they have really good quality products for a good price. I do my grocery shopping a little bit here and there.

15. The best thing I've ever eaten
It's hard to think of the 'best thing ever', but I have vivid memories of eating beaver tail on the slopes of Whistler in Canada. It's a kind of flat doughnut covered in cinnamon and sugar, and it looks like a beaver tail. I was around 6 years old then, and I'd do anything to eat this again.

16. What's your favourite cocktail?
Gin & tonic is what I usually order. But I also love a good frozen margarita or a Moscow mule.

17. Coffee with George Clooney or Heston Blumenthal?
Coffee with George, but then a real Italian coffee not Nespresso.

18. What is essential in your kitchen?
A blender (for smoothies, soups etc.), a sharp little knife, olive oil, bananas, frozen raspberries, cinnamon, smoked hot paprika, lemons, cracked black pepper and flaked sea salt. I could name more but I'll stop here.

19. My favourite snack is...
At the moment: rice cakes with peanut butter, banana slices and cinnamon. At work there are peanuts in their shell which I've also been loving. Basically anything peanut-y.

20. What's on your pizza?
Mozzarella, tomato sauce, homemade pesto.

21. What do you really dislike?
Any kind of liver, especially chicken liver. It gives me the chills even thinking about it. Worst flavour in the world.

22. My favourite foodblog is...
I like Smitten Kitchen and Love & Lemons. I also like The Londoner’s easy recipes and restaurant reviews. There's a lot of great Instagram accounts too, maybe I'll share them in another post.

23. The strangest thing you've ever eaten...
Oral squid sushi in Kyoto. Not sure what it was, and if the translation was correct, but it was chewy and gross.

24. What's on your food bucket list?
Too many things to name. Gjelina in L.A., Noma in Denmark, sushi at Sukiyabashi Jiro in Tokyo are some of them. The list is truly endless.

25. I can't live without..
Roasted chestnuts

I hope you enjoyed this food post :) I'm curious to know, what's the best thing you've ever eaten?
