Ottolenghi | London

You might have seen Yotam Ottolenghi's cookbooks at a friend's kitchen, maybe even your own. By just flicking through those cookbooks, you'll quickly notice that Yotam does some incredible things with vegetables. These aren't just simple salads, but a mix of different vegetables, herbs and spices you wouldn't just come up with yourself. I must admit that some recipes require many different ingredients which makes it a bit complicated, but luckily there are some Ottolenghi delis spread around London to get the real Ottolenghi taste.

There are 3 delis in Belgravia, Islington and Notting Hill. I haven't visited the one in Notting Hill, but really like the two others, though the Belgravia restaurant is rather small so better for take-away.

The first thing you see when you walk in is a massive display of different kind of sweets and pastries. Everything looks incredible!

But because I like savoury things more, the huge piles of vegetables and other goodies appeal even more to me. I really love colourful and tasty looking food. It's incredibly hard to choose from all these goodies!

While I was getting my dissertation printed and bound, I decided to treat myself to a good lunch at Ottolenghi in Islington. You can choose different things which are piled on your plate. I forgot the exact ingredients of all of this, but it was a bean salad, sweet carrots and aubergine with a yoghurt sauce. Super tasty and exactly what I like to eat.

Ottolenghi isn't very cheap (£14 for the salad I had), but I think the prices are justified considering the amount of different and special ingredients. All the food is freshly prepared and absolutely delicious. If you rather experiment in your own kitchen, I can really recommend Ottolenghi's cookbooks. Here's a sneak peek of the latest Jerusalem book.

There's also a whole bunch of recipes on the website, so you can check those out if you don't have one of the cookbooks. Ottolenghi is a must-go when you're in London!
