Le Relais de Venise | Marylebone

I have written about this restaurant before in a food diary post but this place really deserves its own blog post, so here I go. It's one of my favorite fool-proof places in London.

A few years ago, on a lovely day in St Germain, Paris, we randomly stumbled upon a line of people waiting to get into what seemed to be an average looking brasserie. We decided to join in (where there's a line there must be good food), had a quick glance at the menu and thought it was pretty strange because there was only one thing on the menu: a salad with mustard dressing and walnuts as a starter, and two servings of entrecote, sauce and fries as a main alltogether for 21 pounds. We ordered our meals, not knowing what to expect..

..and from that day onwards me and my family have been regular - slightly addicted - customers of Le Relais de Venise/L'entrecote.
I have gone to Le Relais TWICE (edit) THREE (edit) COUNTLESS TIMES since I've been back in London. Yes, you could say that I'm addicted to the handmade thin golden crispy fries, the strong mustard or maybe it's the outrageously delicious buttery salty lemony secret sauce which comes with the thinly sliced entrecote. It's mouthwateringly good and I think I've used all the adjectives that could possibly describe this meal.

And I haven't even mentioned the desserts. Le Vacherin is my fave. A tower of meringue, vanilla & hazelnut ice cream smothered in hot chocolate sauce and topped with some fluffy whipped cream.

I think this restaurant is a pretty well-kept secret as I haven't seen many London reviews. There are branches here and there so there's almost no excuse not to try it out.
There is however a no-reservation policy but that's all part of the experience (the anticipation!). Once you've been, you'll know what to expect every time you go there so there's no reason for disappointment. For vegetarians there is an option of french cheeses with salad and fries, and a dessert of choice.

Le Relais de Venise is the best place for fool-proof steak frites. Delicious, that's all I can say.
